As Vienna-Austria natives and American citizens Bruno and Trudy Platzer decided in the 90's, that time had arrived to share their all their wonderful blessings with the Las Vegas community. Thus, the Las Vegas Railroad Society was formed with all of Las Vegas' children in mind and to preserve Las Vegas' extremely railroad history.

Trudy Platzer is a visionary, moving forward and moving up, when others are preparing to give up; especially when it involves Las Vegas' children.

THE INTERVIEW - TRUDY PLATZER:

Q: "Why did you as the Founder decide to build a 'Railroad Heritage Park' and 200 acre live steam reailroad park for children right here in the Las Vegas valley?"

Trudy: "Many American cities have railroad museums as also mining museums! We are actually not re-inventing the wheel. Like Mayor Oscar Goodman said in public, 'Las Vegas exists because of the railroad, we need this'!"

"Being community-minded is really important to us. I absolutely love Las Vegas! The Las Vegas community has been really good to my husband and me since 1977 when we first arrived. What better way, than to return the favor with volunteering and offering our labor of love to create this fantastic highly educational train wonderland for our local community and all it's children?!"

"Parents say, Las Vegas is no place for children. A local teacher not too long ago explained to former Councilman Larry Brown right in front of us that he just did not know where to take his class for a FIELD TRIP. So, he took the children to the New York - New York Hotel. Do I need to say more?"

Influencing ALL OUR LOCAL children's lives for the better makes one's own life worth living. Thus, being able to leave such an important legacy behind is absolutely priceless. Especialy since this project will benefit many, many future generations!

But now, we are trying to get attention from big corporations to partner with us, to.....
- Help f
inace those wonderful, wonderful educational program activities!
- Help preserve Las Vegas' railroad history!
- Help finance some of the buildings!
- Help us with the purchase of the small-scale trains & tracks!

Our 200 acre property contract has no re-negotiation period, unlike many other similar parks throughout the United States. This contract is almost written in stone, is here to stay for the development of an entire cultural center with Las Vegas' official railroad museum, mining museum, potential marina museum, botanical garden, even a west side arts district and of course the unique small-scale real live-steam railroad route throughout the entire park property.

This 'Railroad heritage Park' is also Las Vegas' biggest educational children's project in history! Donor's money is therefore securely invested within this community project, plus, our 501 c3 charitable organization allows anyone to write of any donation 100%!"

Q:"Trudy tell us, what are your 3 most important values?"

TRUDY: MOST IMPORTANT VALUE #1:
"Understanding and practicing the meaning behind the word 'value' on a daily basis provides us with 'self-respect' because only then can we look ourselves in the mirror the end of the day and like what we see!"
.

TRUDY: MOST IMPORTANT VALUE #2:
"To also show respect towards mankind, nature and society as a whole"
.
TRUDY: MOST IMPORTANT VALUE #3:
"To
be a valuable 'role model' on every level in everything we do, in regards to our family, friends, even towards stragers who do not share our opinion; but especially for the sake of our next generation."

So.... with all that good advise... who is Trudy Platzer, .... really?

"VIENNA IS FOREVER IN MY HEART"

Trudy Platzer 1999:

"Vienna is forever in my heart,
with the '
Sound of Music'
the famous
Johann Strauss waltzes
and delicate Wolfgang Amadeus tunes!"

"In a good way, my heart is divided now,
since I also fell in love with our
new home town back in 1977:

Now, my beloved second home town
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA"

"I am very, very lucky!"

The Founders Trudy & Bruno Platzer traveled throughout Europe:

Austria, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, as also part of Asia, and the entire United States, conducting years and years of world-wide research about the world's railroad history. Bruno Platzer is a 'walking library' when it comes to railroad history, it is always fascinating to listen to his stories.

Bruno collected an entire photo library, railroad DVD's & videos, and plenty of national & international information on the following....

Railroad history / Locomotives/ Trains / Railroad museums / The function of rail yards / Architecture of railroad stations / Railroad technology....ailroad rules and regulations, etc.

Trudy in 2006:
"Looking back
can be fun.."

Trudy: "I guess, Judo in my early years also influenced my thinking throught life's journey. Judo teaches you to yield the attacker's energy instead of absorbing it. Using their own destructive force, to make them fall.

It is a positive and wise move to yield an enemy's negative force in any situation in life, never blocking or opposing their intended flow of destruction, but moving that negative flow of energy into a constructive direction instead. The final outcome can destroy the enemy or enlighten them, is up to their own attitude, at the very end. I personally love all people."

TRUDY PLATZER IS CURRENTLY ALSO AN ACTIVE MEMBER/SUPPORTER OF MANY OTHER CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS:

Bruno Platzer, known for his passionate love for the railroads and its history, owns also the reputation of being a precision builder of his private collection of 1.5" scale and 2.5" scale steam locomotives. He is well-respected and recognized world-wide within the live steam hobby arena for his obsession for fine detail. His museum quality engines and trains have been featured on a national and International level:

BRUNO PLATZER'S VOLUNTEER EFFORTS

Among many other volunteer efforts, there are those special occasions when Mr. Platzer is delighted to keep up with national PR volunteer efforts, hauling the public at other cities' railroad parks. Folks in other cities have always enjoyed taking a ride with his Challenger locomotive. Many of the passengers were young men, who fantasize that one day they also will try to build such a complicated piece of machinery.

And that's what it's all about:

  • Because if such young people learn to machine certain pieces for a steam locomotive, they can machine just about anything, if ever needed.....

BRUNO PLATZER LOVES TRAINS, ALL SHAPES AND SIZES....

Plus he is dedicated to preservation of all railroad history and railroad memorabilia. Some of his favorite trains are the narrow gauge trains in Durango, Colorado:

Ahhh, Durango - Colorado, what a place to be...

Bruno Platzer:
"I highly recommend for anybody
to take a drive to Colorado,
and to take the train from Durango to Silverton.
It is an awesome experience, any time of the year."
