To the Las Vegas Community:

"I was an International Airline Pilot for many years flying the Boeing 747 around the globe. It does sound exciting and adventurous and in many ways it was. I have a son who is 5 years old now and when ever I had a layover in any exotic city such as Bangkok, Thailand, a post card was sure to follow explaining "Dads' adventure. When my son Simon is a responsible young man, I will present him with all the post cards from over the years.

I have got out of flying as a career, I do not want to be a dad who spent more time on the phone talking to his son than being with him. Flying was not a challenge to me any more and I wanted to offer more to my life, more to Simons' life, and to help other people's lives where ever I can. My career has taken hold of Terra Firma and rotated 180 degrees.

The founder and CEO of the Las Vegas Railroad Society, Trudy Platzer along with her husband Bruno were in the trenches for many years, waiting for a property contract, to build Las Vegas' Railroad Heritage Park with Las Vegas' first official railroad museum. Thanks to a wonderful man, Councilman Larry Brown, Trudy and Bruno received a delightful Christmas present December 2007, and they signed the contract. Trudy's vision is, to give back to the community and their children.

I was fortunate to have lunch with the LVRRS Founders to get a feeling of their concept. What should have been a quick lunch turned into 4 hours. Sitting across the table I realized what passion they both have and that their hearts are definitely in the right place. My mind was already made up, I have to be a part of this Nonprofit Organization and the number of volunteers are growing daily from all walks of life. Now, that the contract is signed, all the funding will come from donations. This is where we stand today. This Railroad park will be on 200 acres in the North West.

Everyone who has the opportunity to meet Trudy Platzer in person will be pleasantly surprised in what she emanates. I advise anyone who wants to give back to the Las Vegas community, and who wants to feel appreciated and respected as a volunteer, to consider getting involved with the Las Vegas Railroad Society. This nonprofit organization is not only under wise leadership, but absolutely cares about its volunteers, about our entire community and all its children."
